Threadly - or Private Threads / MyThread

  • Amit Patil

Twitter-like space to write in threads, attach images, and organize thoughts with hashtags — without posting everything to a public social network.

Idea

Threadly is a personal microblogging app: multi-segment threads that are private by default, with optional public marking, hashtag suggestions, search, comments, notifications, and media uploads. Built with Flutter and Supabase so it works as a real authenticated product, not a UI mock.

How to use

Prerequisites - Flutter SDK (project targets SDK ^3.5.3 / Flutter 3.24+) - A Supabase project - Android emulator/device, iOS simulator, or Chrome for web 1. Clone the repo and open the app folder: cd app 2. Backend setup (Supabase) - Run supabase/schema.sql in the Supabase SQL Editor - Auth → Providers → enable Email + Password - Storage → confirm public bucket "post-media" - Copy Project URL + anon/publishable key only (never the secret key) 3. Configure env - Copy app/.env.example → app/.env - Set SUPABASE_URL and SUPABASE_ANON_KEY 4. Install & run flutter pub get flutter run -t lib/main_local.dart (or main_dev.dart / main_staging.dart / main_prod.dart) 5. Use the app - Sign up / sign in with email + password (min 6 chars) - If email confirmation is on, confirm via email then sign in - Home: timeline of your threads - Post: compose multi-segment threads (private by default; toggle public) - Attach images via picker / paste; add #hashtags (suggestions appear while typing) - Search posts; open drawer for tags - Open a post for comments, likes, edit/delete - Alerts + Profile tabs for notifications and account Demo account (optional): create one reviewer account yourself and share email + password here — do NOT put production secrets in the form.

Notes & next steps

Tech: Flutter (Riverpod, go_router), Supabase Auth + Postgres RLS + Storage. Current limitations - Data is primarily owner-scoped (personal feed); true multi-user social graph (follow/public discovery) is not fully rolled out in RLS yet - Dummy seed content may appear for empty feeds - No published store/web deployment yet Future plans - Public feed / follow model on top of is_public - Realtime updates - Push notifications - Polished web deployment + store builds - Richer profile editing Blockers / challenges - Flutter/plugin compatibility (e.g. app_links vs Flutter 3.24 Gradle APIs) - Balancing Twitter-like UX with private-first ownership model
