SnapRise (v2)

  • Ashish Kumar

Traditional alarm apps are easy to dismiss with a single tap or swipe while still half-asleep, which lets people fall back asleep, hit snooze repeatedly, or oversleep entirely. Simply making an alarm louder or more persistent doesn't solve the root issue — it doesn't verify that the person is actually awake and out of bed, just that they were able to touch a screen.

Idea

SnapRise is a Flutter-based alarm app that forces genuine wakefulness before it will stop ringing, using on-device machine learning to verify physical proof of being awake. Instead of a dismiss button, users must complete one of two challenges when the alarm rings: Object Detection — a roulette-style picker selects a random household item (e.g., laptop, coffee mug, sneakers), and the user must physically locate it and photograph it. Google ML Kit's image labeling model verifies the correct object is in frame. Sit-ups — the user must perform 2–4 standing hip-bend reps in front of the front camera, tracked in real time using Google ML Kit's pose detection to confirm actual movement.

How to use

Install & launch the app and grant camera and alarm permissions when prompted. Set an alarm — tap to add a new alarm, then choose: 1. Time and repeat days 2. Label and vibration 3. Dismissal challenge: Object Detection or Sit-ups 4. Difficulty (1–10): number of failed attempts allowed before a skip option appears 5. Save the alarm — it's scheduled and synced automatically. When the alarm rings, the screen wakes and the challenge is revealed: Object Detection: A roulette lands on an item (e.g., mug, laptop, sneakers). Open the in-app camera and photograph that item. Sit-ups: Stand in front of the front camera and perform the target number of hip-bend reps (2–4). On-device ML verifies your action — image labeling for objects, pose detection for sit-ups. No internet needed. Alarm stops only once the challenge is successfully completed. Failed attempts count toward the difficulty limit before a skip option becomes available. Edit or delete alarms anytime from the home screen's alarm list.

Notes & next steps

This is the second version of this app where anew feature has been added to switch off the alram. Now user can set a new mode called Sit Ups where user will get a random number when alram hits and user has to do that number of sit ups to switch off the alram.
